Tucked away in a gentle valley, hidden from view, just off the Midland highway between Geelong and Ballarat are the unassuming but beautiful Bannnockburn vineyards. Steeped in history and surrounded by beauty, a wine tasting with winemaker Matt Holmes will leave you inspired and curious to learn more about this magical region that for so many years has been left in peace to grow grapes. First settled by Swiss immigrants in the 1800’s, in the 1960s it was revived and became one of the early pioneers of Victorian Pinot Noir. The region is famous for limestone soils which year after year delivers complex and award winning wines.
94 Points Campbell Mattinson
Pure fruit, perfect balance, lots of length. It will need time to build complexity but everything here appears to be in excellent working order. Pear, apple, grapefruit and white peach flavours come littered with seashells and smoky, cedarwood oak. Nothing is overdone; everything glides along.
